What a day for the FC Soccer Dawgs as both squads brought home tournament titles at the Loyd Star Invitational.
The Lady Dawgs posted three straight shutouts on the way to their title, led by Senior sweeper Haley Haygood, senior stoppers Anna Bein and Anna McCormick, senior defender Chandler Gagliardi, along with Morgan Moak, Brooklin Bolin, Brianna Brumfield and 8th grade keeper Macy Ziskin, who had 11 saves in the final and 21 on the day.
Offensively, the Lady Dawgs were equally impressive as 8th grade forward Harley McKay scored 3 goals, each being the game winner in 2-0 wins over McComb and Loyd Star, along with the 1-0 winner in the final vs North Pike. Krislyn Kent assisted McKay's game winner which came in the 21st minute.
Senior midfielder Kristen Emory connected on 2 penalty kicks and she is now 4 for 4 on penalty kicks this season.
The Dawgs captured their title by defeating North Pike 7-0, McComb 5-1, and Loyd Star 3-0. The lone goal against came on a penalty kick following a hand ball in the box. Defensive standouts Brenden Beach, Quay Allen, DJ Booker, and Benard Selmon kept their opponents attack off balance for the majority of the day,
Junior midfielder Hoby Mullins was outstanding offensively , getting hat tricks in games 1 and 2 . Mullins also picked up 2 more assists on the day. Junior forward Zane Mullins had 4 goals, 1 assist while Kemo Verdin scored twice. Senior midfielder Jonathan Rodgers picked up a goal and 2 assists. Ryan Shaw provided a spark off the bench getting 3 assists. Brendan Beach had 2 assists while Senior midfielder Matt Brasher had a goal and an assist.
Sophomore GK Jordan Clark blocked a penalty kick and Senior Trey Bailey posted 2 shutouts in goal for the Dawgs.
